Most of you are familiar with ALEKS. ALEKS is a math program that ELA uses to deepen understanding and reinforce the math concepts learned in class. It covers everything that we do in the 4th grade and is very important to your child’s math education. Students will work on their ALEKS 4th grade pie in school after they complete 0-12 multiplication and division. Students who complete their daily math work in class will also have a chance to work on their 4th grade pie. It is expected that each student in my class will complete their 4th grade pie by the end of the year. Rather than giving a weekly grade for ALEKS completion, I will be grading students at the end of each term on the percentage completed. It is expected that 25% of their pie is completed by the end of Term 1, 50% must be completed by the end of Term 2, 75% by the end of Term 3, and 100% by the end of May. Please familiarize yourself with your child’s ALEKS account, and keep an eye on the percentage completed. One more thing. ALEKS is also designed for advanced students. Advanced students may have already begun their 4th grade pie last year. The great news is that students can progress at their own level. I have had 4th graders in their 5th and 6th grade pies. At that point, students will receive full credit in ALEKS for the year, and will automatically qualify for any incentive rewards the 4th grade team offers.
