Lexia is a specialized reading program that Early Light Academy is using to improve students’ comprehension, vocabulary, and understanding of reading conventions. Using Lexia, students work independently at their own pace through individualized learning paths to develop fundamental reading skills in a structured, sequential manner. At the beginning of the year, your student will take a placement assessment, which will place him or her on a level from 1-16. Your student will also be prescribed a weekly time goal. For students who need some catch-up work, the time goal could be as high as 80 minutes/week. One of the hallmarks of Lexia is that each student must complete his or her prescribed minutes in order to progress and level up, so we will be doing Lexia for 20 minutes in class most days. If your student still has minutes to complete at home, I will email and let you know by Thursday. Students graduate from Lexia on level 16 (5th grade level), and it is my expectation that most students will accomplish this goal.
